How Would You Describe Yourself?

And as you describe yourself: is the descriptive language positive or negative?

According to William Shakespeare:

‘Beware the stories you tell yourself – for you will surely be lived by them.’

In other words, language has the power to empower or to diminish a person’s sense of self-worth.

Consequently, it is the resilient, self-aware individual who ignores:

o an inner critic that exclusively uses belittling language
o spoken language intended to offend, insult, diminish, or disempower
o unrealistic thought patterns and common false beliefs resulting in low self-esteem.

For example, the resilient, self-aware individual accepts the reality that they will not be liked by everyone nor will they be one hundred percent competent in every activity they attempt. Such individuals accept like attracts like and that failure is the pathway to personal growth.

And on that pathway to personal growth and mastery: it is the resilient, self-aware individual who takes care how they communicate. Such individuals monitor their thought patterns, emotional well-being and their choice of language because they understand how language can empower or disempower; irrespective, if the words are directed at themselves or at other people. And it is their respect for themselves and for other people that motivates them to use language that is uplifting, inspiring, and encouraging.
